So what is Transmuseplanet? Good question, mostly a blog but the beginning of what I hope will be so much more. Let's take the name for example, and let's break it up, T = transgender, muse=to inspire, planet= uniting all that wish to be a part of our community. So basically you may say another transgender blog, you wouldn't be wrong there, but we hope so much more. Here as the muse implies, to not only be inspiring to others, but to inspire our community, to think outside of the box of just a transgender world. And is that possible? Well we think so, as a transgender female , yes I'm not clueless to what it means to be transgender, having being "passing" for over a decade. But is that all I am? Of course not and the diversity that we as transpeople are even more diverse amongst ourselves. We think of the world around us, news, politics, where to shop, we have a wide range of opinions, just as anyone else, on a million topics and we may not all agree. Some Trans people consider themselves straight, bi, gay or lesbian. Some are in ftm and mtf relationships and much more. This blog and concept is to hopefully bring all these opinions, thoughts and the duality of our diversity in one big open discussion, being birth just shortly after the 2012 re-election of Barack Obama , I've become even more conscious of my trans community and feel we are being left behind in some sorts. I don't think I'm the only one who'd thought or would agree that it seems the LGBT community has forgotten there's a T at the end. Should we be mad? Should we fight for inclusion and rights in a sub culture that is in the midst of their own battle for equality? Or should we take stock of the work the gay and lesbian community has done, the Latino and african-american communities have done and try at least to stand and strengthen our own community and stop begging for inclusion from groups that may or may not give us the respect, equality and dignity that even they themselves fight for. Then how can we as a community be angry when our needs are not met? Do we as trans people ourselves continue to be divided by our own duality? The "passable" ones who are show girls, escorts, porn stars vs. the "passable" girls that further their education, have jobs, fight or hide within the hetro community, the cd who knows in her heart she's a trans female but is frowned upon from the "passable" trans women, are we ignoring her rights? There is an organization I often here of that meets in Atlanta once a year, it's mostly professionally trans women who have lived most of their lives as men, had been married, bore children and began transition in their late thirties or forties, I've heard the negative comments from the earlier mentioned "passable" girls who have been open and a transperson even in their teens and have felt the blunt of discrimination and take offense to the newly discovered transpeople. And let's not forget our male counter parts the female to males, who have made great strides in bringing to light the trans community. Truly these are all heated; debated conversations that we, Transmuseplanet, feel need to be addressed. My hope is that here, our community can discuss, debate and hopefully merge into a United community to stand strong for who we are and to celebrate the never ending Duality that is being Transgender.
